¹³ Then they took their bones^(A) and buried them under a tamarisk^(B) tree at Jabesh, and they fasted^(C) seven days.^(D)

¹² They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the Lord and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

³⁵ Then they all came and urged David to eat something while it was still day; but David took an oath, saying, “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,^(A) if I taste bread^(B) or anything else before the sun sets!”
